How Can I Build Confidence When Public Speaking Makes Me Overthink Every Mistake?
I am 50, and I have recently started attending a local public speaking group because I want to feel more confident sharing ideas. I can prepare thoroughly at home, but once I stand in front of the group, my voice tightens, my mind goes blank, and I focus on every small mistake. Afterward, I replay the talk for hours and feel embarrassed, even when people say it went well. This is beginning to affect my confidence at work, where I avoid volunteering for presentations. How can I gradually build self esteem and become more comfortable speaking in front of others without expecting myself to be flawless?
